Shadow of the Bat

I took my daughter, Logan, to the movies today. We haven't been in quite a while and it was a good day to treat her as school starts back next week.

I have gotten in the habit of carrying quite a few things with me and it has become necessary to carry a bag, my messenger bag that has my geocaching logo on it. Pens, camera, iPad, etc. It's good to have things to keep the kids busy, and it doubles as a more manly diaper bag with Sam being so small still.

I couldn't leave that much equipment in the truck today, I would have worried myself sick during the movie. So I took the bag in.

We bought our tickets and walked in. No one said a thing about my bag. As we were having our tickets taken the young lady inside asked to look inside my bag. This didn't bother me after what happened in Colorado. As a matter of fact I was glad she asked when I thought about it. Who knows when the copycat comes along?

I also wonder if they have a plan in place. They let me get inside. Do they have a contingency plan if I had pulled a gun from the bag? A grenade? Some sort of IED? Not that I would have. I am a somewhat stable, normal member of our society.

But the what if sticks in my mind.

I didn't feel as if my rights were violated. As a matter of fact I felt as if the rights of others, like the one to stay breathing, were protected. I am glad of that.

The lady behind me flat refused and they told her she would have to take her bag back to the car before entering. She started to complain loudly which caused me to reach for the only weapon I did have, my knife, and to hold my daughters hand a little tighter. She finally allowed them to look in her bag. Stress dropped off me. You never know who's going to snap anymore.

Just something that happened and a cause to write. Because when you feel like writing, write. It's got to come out somehow.

I hope that you all have a safe and fruitful week.
